NORTHAMPTON — Coldwell Banker Community Realtors announced this week that it has completed the acquisition of Goggins Real Estate, a move that will join two family businesses that have operated in Franklin and Hampshire counties for 74 years.

Coldwell Banker Community Realtors owner Brian Megliola also owns a company called Coldwell Banker Commercial – Upton-Massamont, which will be renamed Coldwell Banker Commercial – Goggins Associates. Goggins Real Estate founder Pat Goggins will serve as the entity’s Commercial Real Estate Director in Hampshire County.

The agreement, signed on Sunday to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of Goggins Real Estate, “will provide the client with a tenfold experience,” Megliola said in an interview.

“It was a dream for me to work with Pat,” he says. “He sees our vision for the future of real estate. I think that’s why he chose us for the acquisition.

Coldwell Banker Community Realtors was started as Upton and May Real Estate by Christine Aubrey and Steve Upton in South Deerfield in 1988. The company, for which Aubrey is now a broker, has residential real estate offices in South Deerfield, Northampton, Amherst and Shelburne Falls. , as well as a commercial office in Greenfield.

In an announcement, Megliola said he, Aubrey and Goggins “have all been very active in supporting our communities and although we have a national brand which brings us a higher level of service for our agents and our customers, we are always a local business. who has deep roots here in the valley. This will never change.

He said the only thing the national Coldwell Banker can control is the logo it uses.

The Coldwell Banker Community Realtors office at 112 King St. in Northampton will be the main office for the residential operation, while the commercial entity will be at 79 King St., the current site of the Goggins office.

“I plan to remain very active in real estate and look forward to leading the trading company,” Goggins said in a statement. “I look forward to this new partnership as it enhances our ability to provide even better service to our customers with the additional tools and systems we will now have through Coldwell Banker.” … They are an impressive organization and bring a lot to the table for both our residential and commercial customers.

Goggins started his business in 1982 and has helped develop and market major Northampton residential projects including Bear Hill, Village Hill, Baker Hill and the new Hawley Manor, in addition to commercial properties.

Megliola said his companies have “always been a leader in Franklin County” and that Goggins’ “strength in Hampshire County” will be a boon to developers and consumers alike.

The acquisition means the Megliola Companies will absorb seven Goggins employees, bringing the roster to 10 full-time support staff and 51 agents, many with over 25 years of experience.

“We sell more homes than virtually anyone in Hampshire and Franklin counties. We sold 700 last year with 45 agents,” Megliola said. “It’s a whole team of people who are there to help consumers, not just a single agent. … We are well organized and every document is perfect.

Coldwell Banker Community Realtors has been instrumental in the development and marketing of properties including Emerson Way in Northampton, Silvercrest condos in Greenfield, The Residences in Shelburne Falls and “most condominium developments in South Deerfield,” according to the company. .
