Garrett Dennis resigns from Jacksonville City Council

Garrett Dennis is a business owner and was a member of the Jacksonville City Council, representing the 9th District.

Councilman Garrett Dennis announced Monday that he would run for a United States House position and resign from the Jacksonville City Council to do so.

Dennis says he will run for Florida’s 14th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, which is currently represented by Kathy Castor (D).

“I will fight hard to make sure the people of District 14 are not left behind by Republican politicians in Tallahassee,” Dennis said in a statement. “The district deserves a representative who is responsive to the needs of our local community.”

Dennis, an outspoken city council member, criticized the local gas tax and also lobbied for the Government Cuts Bill, a bill that would reduce the size of the Jacksonville City Council to 14 members. instead of 19 members.

Last year, he also called for the resignation of Mayor Lenny Curry following a scathing report on JEA’s failed privatization and a council vote that shot down the Lot J project.

All US House districts, including the Florida’s 14th congressional districthold elections in 2022.

The general election is scheduled for November 8, 2022. The primary is scheduled for August 23, 2022.

The deadline for submission is June 17, 2022.
